Glengarry Private Hospital – delivering 35 years of real magic to the local community
Nov 16, 2012
Thirty-five years ago, in the newly developed suburb of Duncraig, Glengarry Private Hospital opened its doors to meet the health needs of Perth’s northern suburbs.
A modest hospital at the time, with two wards and 80 beds, the hospital’s South Wing originally operated as an Obstetric Unit while the North Wing accommodated minor surgical procedures.
Since that day in November 1977, Glengarry Private Hospital has expanded to 110 beds and offers a wide range of specialties including palliative care, obstetrics, rehabilitation and surgical and medical services.
Local residents Mary Guthrie, Dot Marie, Julie Oliver and Irma McQueen have been with Glengarry Private Hospital since the days the doors first opened.
“Over the years there have been more than 32,000 babies born at Glengarry,” said midwife Mary Guthrie.
“The most magical thing is that many of the children we helped deliver have come back to Glengarry over recent years to have their own babies – and the grandparents of these new babies still recognise us!”
Customer Service Officer, Julie Oliver says working at the hospital over the past 35 years has been one of the highlights of her life.
“Its such a fantastic hospital, with wonderful staff who really care about our patients. Despite the growth over the years, the hospital has still managed to maintain its reputation as a community focused hospital.”
Accommodation and Booking Coordinator, Irma McQueen agrees saying she has thoroughly enjoyed being part of such a wonderful team.
“Our hospital’s slogan really sums up the time I have spent working here and I can honestly say it’s been 35 years of real magic every day.”
Glengarry Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer and Director of Nursing, Dani Meinema says the past 35 years of providing quality health care to local residents would not have been possible without the dedication of our hardworking staff and volunteers.
“We believe we have always been, and will continue to be, a warm and friendly hospital which continually strives to provide a high quality and consistent service to the patients in our community. The caring values of our outstanding staff ensure that the care and comfort of all patients is our priority and I am proud to celebrate this milestone with our staff and local community.”
