Maternity Education Programs
A comprehensive Maternity Education Program has been developed to help you prepare for the joys and challenges of parenthood.
Preparation for Parenthood Classes
Glengarry Private Hospital's Maternity Service offers women and their partners a comprehensive range of antenatal and postnatal support services. Services are designed to ensure couples are well prepared for and informed during pregnancy and have adequate access to support services upon leaving hospital. The program covers practical information and is presented by the Midwives who work in our Maternity Unit.
It is advisable that you and your partner book into these classes as early as possible as positions are limited. We recommend booking before 15 weeks gestation.

Antenatal Classes
We have formulated an Antenatal Program for you and your partner that is designed to share knowledge through discussion and education. The program covers practical information and is presented by the Midwives who work in our Maternity Unit.

The above classes are available over 5 weeks, generally on Monday/ Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. They are 2 hours each session. Refreshments are provided.
Preparation for Parenthood – weekend condensed antenatal class
This course is ideal for families who have limited time and are unable to attend our five week program. The weekend condensed program addresses important aspects of your pregnancy and birth over a one day period. Saturday class is from 8.45 am finishing at 4.00 pm.
There is a cost incurred for this class. Refreshments are provided.
Refresher Program
Even families who already have a child like to brush up on their skills. This two-hour program is designed to give established families the opportunity to refresh their skills and/or enhance their knowledge base and discuss past experiences. The format for this class is flexible depending on the need of the attendees.
There is a cost for this class.
New Parents' Group - Afternoon Tea Reunion
The afternoon tea reunion provides a welcoming environment for new parents to foster new friendships. The afternoon tea also provides the opportunity to discuss your baby’s progress, and to provide support and advice regarding your baby’s care.

Grandparents Class
We all agree that Grandparents are an important part of the family. We have therefore developed a Grandparent class to inform prospective Grandparents of the changes since they were parents. This is a great opportunity to enrich your ‘grandparenting’ skills.
The transition to parenthood is often overwhelming and we will discuss the most helpful ways for you to offer praise, encouragement and assistance.
This class is on Thursday 7.30 - 9.00 pm and supper is provided. There is a cost for these classes.

Heart Beat Club
The Royal Life Saving Society, is presenting a series of ‘Heartbeat Club’ workshops, specifically for parents and carers of children in the home.
These workshops are designed to instruct all carers (parents, grandparents etc) of babies and toddlers of the correct method of performing resuscitation on babies and young children. This 3 hour course also provides important information on life saving measures, and first aid information on croup, choking and burns. The course is conducted in a friendly and relaxed manner.

Tour Information
Choosing the birthplace of your baby is an important and complex process. At Glengarry Private Hospital expectant parents are encouraged to meet our friendly, experienced staff and view our comprehensive facilities.
Group tours of Glengarry Private Hospital's Maternity Service are conducted every Sunday afternoon at 2.30 pm. No appointments are necessary. Please present to the hospital foyer prior to 2.30 pm.
