IMPORTANT CHANGES TO MATERNITY SERVICES

Ramsay Health Care has made the difficult decision to consolidate private maternity services in Perth’s north at Joondalup Private Hospital (Joondalup Private).

Glengarry Private Hospital (Glengarry) has now closed its maternity service.

Glengarry had a proud history of providing maternity services to the local community and the decision was not taken lightly. Several issues were involved, primarily due to a sustained reduction in anaesthetic and paediatric on-call cover, a challenge faced by many maternity services around Australia. Glengarry had also experienced a significant and prolonged reduction in births in recent years.

We understand this news disappointed some patients and members of the community, and we apologise to those impacted.

Ramsay is committed to making sure our expecting parents have a positive birth experience. Joondalup Private is roughly 15 minutes’ drive from Glengarry and is regarded as an extremely safe service. Fortunately, all former Glengarry obstetricians with births booked at Glengarry were already accredited to practise at Joondalup Private and have commenced deliveries there. Many of our former maternity staff have now transitioned to Joondalup Private Hospital and Joondalup Health Campus (public).

Glengarry Private Hospital continues to offer its many other services and will focus on growing care services that meet the evolving needs of the Perth northern suburbs community.
